PerfectaWash - New Automatic Dispenser Product
RB has launched a new variant of the Lysol No Touch Hand Soap Dispenser called Clearasil PerfectaWash. It dispenses "the perfect dose" of facial cleanser. The product seems to have even less of a conceptual foundation than the automatic soap dispenser. Hopefully it will not suffer from the same mechanical defects and loose interpretation of "perfect amount" that the Lysol No Touch has been ridiculed for.
The Concept - Automatic Soap Dispensers
The question that beckons many consumers who are on the fence about this technology is
The only reason I touch a soap dispenser is to put soap in my hands, and the only reason I put soap in my hands is to wash them clean... Why should I buy a machine that will keep my dirty hands cleaner before I wash them?
Each person may have their own answer to that question - perhaps you feel cleaner or just enjoy the convenience. We won't start a debate regarding whether your hands are actually any cleaner.
Practical uses for automatic soap
Instead, consider practical situations where your hands are so dirty that you do not want to touch anything. The Lysol No-Touch Hand Soap System really shines in the kitchen, providing the right amount of soap to wash away grease and bacteria from handling raw meat or the cocoa from your no-bake cookies. While it may not be necessary for disinfecting the average hand, the Lysol No-Touch may be a cook's best friend.
If it were a dish soap dispenser, an automatic system would conveniently reapply dish soap to your sponge, preventing the inevitable weekly circus act - frying pan left hand, sponge and soap dispenser right hand, daughter climbing right leg, dog napping on left foot!
Touch-free soap, but what about water?
Now if only you could get an automatic kitchen faucet for under $20 you would have a perfect hands-free kitchen! Arguably, an automatic faucet is more beneficial than an automatic soap dispenser since you have to touch the knobs before and after washing. While it may impress your neighbors, if such a home improvement project does not fit into your budget you can still maximize your cleanliness by controlling the faucet with your forearms or using your hand towel to turn off the faucet. If you share the kitchen, just ask for help.
If you are concerned about germs on your soap pump you should also be concerned about germs on your faucet knobs and even more concerned about doorknobs where even people who have not washed their hands have touched. Not all bacteria is bad, not all germs will affect you... just keep the bathroom clean and the doorknob sanitized with Lysol disinfectant spray and if you want the convenience of automatic soap, go for it!
If it were an instant hand sanitizer, although it would not be of any assistance with greasy hands, an automatic hand sanitizer dispenser would remove the need to touch anything else. The Device - Lysol No-Touch Hand Soap System
It is no secret that consumer-friendly clones of commercial appliances tend to have shortcomings when compared to their big brothers. An inexpensive blade coffee grinder will be less consistent than a commercial burr grinder and brochures printed with a commercial offset printer could protect inkjet printed brochures from the rain.
Similarly, the Lysol No-Touch Hand Soap System may not live up to the expectations of consumers who have used commercial or more expensive consumer grade soap dispensers.
Is it the right amount?

Just the "right amount" of soap
One of the most useful features of more expensive dispensers is a quantity control. The Lysol No-Touch does not offer any user control for this, it gives what the advertisements call "just the right amount of soap." It seems to be about the same amount of soap you would get out of a standard Softsoap dispenser when you push the plunger all the way down, certainly ample for even the greasiest of hands.
Some may believe that the definition of "right amount" for this product is determined by the amount of Benzethonium chloride, the Healthy Touch antiseptic ingredient, required to kill bacteria. Others may argue that the "right amount" is determined by the company's profit margin on the product, taking into consideration that some people will find the refills too expensive and some will manually refill the soap containers.
The sensor does not stop the soap when you remove your hand, and the mechanical elements of the dispenser require the same amount of soap to be dispensed every time. Guests who are not accustomed to the Lysol No-Touch may remove their hand prematurely, leaving a mess on the counter top.
If you have soft water which struggles to rinse off the Lysol Healthy Touch soap or you simply want to reduce the amount of expensive soap that you use, you may be out of luck. However, with a bit of trial and error it is possible to reduce the amount of soap dispensed by the Lysol No-Touch. Unfortunately, for most people the effort required to do so is probably not worth the reduced soap waste.

Not particularly fun
Some people want products like this just because they look fun. The Lysol No-Touch is not particularly fun; the experience is roughly equivalent to having a friend pump some soap into your hand while making a humming noise. If you have children, this weakness may be a strength but consider that if your children decide it is fun they can waste a lot of expensive soap very quickly.
Parents searching for an automatic soap dispenser that is within the reach of children would be better off to find an automatic dispenser with a refillable soap reservoir and adjustable soap amount. Foaming dispensers are more fun, much less wasteful, and can be refilled by watering-down normal hand soap though they are not yet any consumer-friendly automatic foaming soap dispensers.
Strong, long-lasting fragrance
The Lysol Healthy Touch soap has a stronger and longer lasting fragrance than most hand soaps. Whether this is a plus or minus is for you to decide!
For those of you who can't stand the smell of the Cucumber soap, the most prevalent Healthy Touch refill, Lysol has released a new antibacterial hand soap for the No Touch dispenser. If you see the new "Aloe Vera & Vitamin E with Moisturizers," give it a try - the name promises a more subtle fragrance.
Compact and well-built
The Lysol No-Touch Hand Soap System is smaller than other dispensers, requiring only 3.5x2.5 inches (8.9x6.4 cm) of counter space and 7 inches (17.8 cm) height clearance. The soap is dispensed 1 inch (2.5 cm) away from the unit, roughly in the center of the protruding 2 inch (5 cm) dispenser head. Unfortunately there is no wall mount option so the dispenser will require a dedicated level surface near your sink.
The device feels sturdy and with a full refill canister it is heavy enough to not fall over. On the inside, the wires are secured with a good amount of solder and the gears are well-lubricated so the mechanical and electrical elements should stand the test of time when used as directed. The motion sensor works well, easily sensing a hand and so far no accidental dispensing. The sensor points back toward the device forming a 3.5x1x4 inch (8.9x2.5x10.2 cm) triangular sensing area. In other words, it can safely hang over the sink without detecting the motion of washing dishes.
The battery compartment is on the bottom and is easy to open. There are no worries about spilling soap to change the batteries; the refill canister clicks and locks into place and even with the refill removed a one-way valve prevents any leakage.
The Cost - Device, Refills, and How to Save Money
The Lysol No-Touch is offered at a lower starting retail price than other automatic soap dispensers. The low cost is partially due to the profitable soap refills which currently offer different fragrances and could possibly offer different soap options (instant sanitizer and dish soap) in the future. However, in the long run this device is more expensive and wasteful than other automatic soap dispensers and traditional manual pumps. The same cost concerns affect the Dettol No-Touch Hand Wash System sold in Europe.

Starter kit cost
The Lysol No-Touch Hand Soap System starter kit includes the dispenser, full-size soap bottle, and 4 AA alkaline batteries at a retail price ranging from $10 to $16. If you are thinking about buying this, look for sales and store coupons which can be matched with the $3 off manufacturer coupons in the January 24 Sunday paper. Currently, Target and Rite Aid offer $1 off store coupons which can be used in addition to the $3 off manufacturer coupon. Walgreens has a $5 off store coupon available in their monthly coupon booklet which can be used through the end of March, 2010.
Operating cost
The operating cost of the Lysol No-Touch has to be determined in comparison to the alternatives. Most automatic soap pumps can be refilled with normal hand soap, and large containers of Softsoap can be purchased for about $0.10 per ounce (~$6 for a 64oz bottle). Manual Softsoap pumps can be purchased for about $0.13 to $0.20 per ounce.
The Lysol Healthy Touch refills cost about $4.50 each for 8.5 ounces, weighing in at $0.53 per ounce, 2 to 5 times more than you would pay for other antibacterial hand soaps. In standard usage, one refill will perform about 166 dispenses. If used 4 times daily, each refill will last about 6 weeks for a yearly operating cost of about $39. To put $39 in perspective, the price for the same amount (74 ounces) of Softsoap is about $10.
Considering that any children in the house will most likely use this as a toy and waste a lot of soap, the cost will rise and may be prohibitive on any budget. If there were a way to water down the soap or refill the Lysol No-Touch with less expensive soap it would make this product a top contender for counter space in the homes of those people who are concerned about the operating costs.

This may be something I'd like to get eventually. When you're cooking and handling raw meat, it would be great so you don't touch the faucet and soup bottle trying to wash your hands. Great hub.

Now that we have been using this for a few weeks (about twice a day average) I've noticed a few more issues regarding the battery life and yellowing of the plastic which I will eventually get around to posting.
Also, the $3 off coupons expired yesterday but I think there is another round of coupons from Lysol for $2 off expiring at the end of June. I didn't see any particularly good sales on this after I bought mine, the best price was $9.97 - $3/1 manufacturer coupon - $1/1 Target store coupon.
Just bought this today to use at our karaoke show. It's a great idea but I think it could dispense a touch less amount of liquid and I did not care for the lingering sticky feeling.
I'm a little behind the masses on this one, but I just bought this at Rite Aid for $2.49! I clipped the $5 manufacturer coupon from the 3/28 newspaper insert, and decided to hang onto it in case I saw an appealing sale. Rite Aid had them for 50% off retail, making it $7.49...I pulled out my coupon and left the store paying less than $3! A normal soap pump is at least twice that much.
That's a great deal Amanda! I wish that was a national Rite Aid sale, but unfortunately the stores in my area are not participating. When I first posted the section about this week's sale I thought it would be national but a lot of people have been grumbling in blog comments and forums that the sale is not in their area - guess you're lucky!
1st the dispenser is nothing fancy, but helps to control the bacteria level around your dispenser so you do not p/u bacteria. 2nd if you are touching a pump dispenser and not washing your hands for the correct amount of time than you are leaving that bacteria on you. 3rd a refiliable system may be cheaper but every time you add soap in you are allowing air to get trapped inbetween the layers of soap and bacteria will grow and feed off of it. 4th the lysol system is a closed air system which keeps it free from outside air. all this can be found on the cdc website.
Was hoping it could be refilled by any hand soap but I guess that is out of the question. Will all the stores supplying this have just the refil soaps to buy? and if so at what cost. I am writing from British Columbia, Canada

Joan, any store which carries the dispenser should also sell refills, generally these are found in the same location in the store, near other kitchen or hand soap products. The refills are available at Wal-marts in BC for about $4.50 CAD each and you can probably expect prices in that range wherever you shop.
I REFILL MY OWN BY USING A BUTTER KNIFE TO REMOVE THE LID AND FILL WITH MY OWN SOAP. LESS THAN 50 CENTS FOR A REFILL THAT WAY! IT'S A LITTLE EXTRA WORK GETTING THE LID OFF BUT IT CAN BE DONE. :)
My little boy whom is 6yrs old is autistic and has OCD, his OCD causes him to wash his hands all the time. This product sure did fill a purpose and "need" for our little guy who washes his hands around 25 times a day. I need to find those disposable wall hand napkins, as he goes through about a half load of towels each day.
I would highly recommend this new product, it's worked wonders in our home.
I like the hands free, but have to apply the soap twice to get the results I want in my kitchen. I love the scent and the concept but the physical results could be improved.
Mine quit working after a spill
Beverly, I just had a spill as well. The dispenser toppled into a kitchen sink full of water. I removed it immediately, turned the power switch off, then removed the batteries. I dried off the batteries and allowed the dispenser to air dry with the battery compartment open for several days.
My Lysol soap dispenser is still working after that incident, but I don't think the water got inside to harm the electrical components. Even if your Lysol No Touch does not get wet inside, it's always possible that tumbling from any height could cause a wire to loosen. Either way, sorry to hear that yours has stopped working, Beverly!
This is the most stupid product I have ever heard of!!!! Do you not wash away the germs using an anti-bactirial soap anyway!!! Spend money on batteries, and whatever else this product may require!!!! Stupid, Stupid, Stupid!!!!!
Stefanie, in some ways I agree with you. I wouldn't use this product in our home bathroom because I don't think it provides much benefit there. For some families that certainly may not be the case.
We have our dispenser in the kitchen, and only really use it to clean up after handling raw meat.

Lina, the same store where you bought the dispenser should carry refills. In Canada you can buy refills at many local drug stores or grocery stores.
According to discussions at the SmartCanucks forum, the Lysol Healthy Touch refills and automatic soap dispenser are sold at places like Superstore, Shoppers Drug Mart, Walmart, London Drugs, and Canadian Tire. Some people have complained that the prices are too high compared to the US.

i have had my soap dispenser's for a while now. The batteries had to be replaced in one of them. I put the batteries in one and now the light stay's on allthe time. My other one's don't due that. Is it O'kay to have the light on all the time?
Mona, is the light solid or blinking?
The light will blink continuously if the voltage detector doesn't work well with the type of battery that you used. Rechargeable batteries are particularly likely to cause the Lysol No Touch light to blink continuously, because they tend to drop to a lower voltage while still maintaining a charge, whereas normal alkaline batteries hold a steady voltage.

If the Lysol soap dispenser light stays on constantly, the motion detection beam is not working. There may be soap on the underside of the dispenser arm blocking the infrared beam or on the red plastic near the light. After cleaning off those areas, turn off the dispenser. When you turn it back on it should blink a few times and then the light will remain off.
I had an idea, I'm interested in buying this product. For kitchen uses when I cook and have greasy hands.
I thought what if instead of opening it with a knife to refill. Why not drill a hole in the top of the bottle and refill the bottle that way (By top I mean, the actual bottom of the bottle when inserted, that way you don't have to remove it to refill it ever, so the gasket should not get damaged ? Then seal the top either with a rubber plug or something else. Wouldn't that work ?
Wouldn't that prevent the gasket/seals to go bad after two refills. Would regular cheap softsoap bought in gallons at Costco work with this thing without diluting ?

In my opinion this is just another way to make everyone hypochondriacs. The amount of time you actually touch the top of a hand pump soap top isn't a lot and what ever germs you may touch are getting washed away with the soap.
I like this type of thing public places, but for the home it takes a second to wipe the top of the soap dispenser in your weekly cleaning. I don't find any use for this type of dispenser in a home. Thanks.

I will never buy Lysol products....especially this no touch soap dispenser....so your hands are dirty..you pump the soap leaving the pump full of your germs....then you wash your hands.....the next person going to clean their hands touches that pump leaving/taking germs........only to wash their hands right after....so what was it that Lysol is promoting? more money in their pocket from dumb people who buy into this crap....oh and i watched market place....Lysol claims its the leading choice by some kind of specialists......YOUR FRAUDS.....you will never see a cent of my money....
I used mine for 3 months. I thought the batteries leaked and it died. It had soap running out the bottom and a small electronic part came along with the soap. Don't waste your money.
guest, yikes! I hope that doesn't happen to many people... it sounds like maybe one of the gaskets failed, any problems with the seal in the plunger pump could definitely cause disaster on the insides of the dispenser.
I have had mine for a few wks I bought it with a $3 off coupon on top of walmarts sell price which at the time was $6 so I only spent 3$ not bad for it. And now walmart has it on sale til the 26th of august for 5$ so if you can find a coupon then it would be worth it, I plan on getting two more 1 for my back bathroom and kitchen. I love it in my main bathroom. Yes it may not be for everyone but its alot easier then having to clean the dried soap off the pump dispensers all the time. as far as the refill im undecided but thinking about drill the hole in one just to see how it works....will update further later on. plz dont knock it til you try it or be snobby and call ppl stupid for your ignorance, like I said its not for everyone

Hi, I have tried several ways to get the liquid soap dispensed, Right now, soap leaked to the bottom, on the counter but not thru the dispenser, like it should. I just can't get it going....What did I not do? I took out the bottle, wasn't sure if the front or back was to face the front or back...Turned on/off button, many times.....waved my hands in front of the sensor...No noise, light on...Nothing happened.....I hope I didn't buy a defective item....Please help....Once I get going, think this product is great, especially for our grandson/family
Char, if all 4 batteries are fully charged and installed in the correct direction and you're still not seeing any red light the dispenser must be defective. I am not sure what would cause soap to leak unless either the refill canister or the pump nozzle are damaged.
I suggest that you call Lysol at 1-800-228-4722, they will likely be able to replace the device if they are not able to troubleshoot it.

Donna, the $3 Lysol No-Touch coupon was in the Sunday paper inserts, 07/11/2010 and expires on August 31. Unfortunately we will not get a new coupon this weekend, perhaps next weekend. I have also seen $2 off coupons for the dispenser on Lysol Toilet Cleaner bottleneck tags.
If you find a coupon today the soap dispenser is on sale at Walmart for $5 through today, August 28. That's the lowest sale price I've seen without a coupon required.
I think that any company that would make and sell one of these things with the idea that you are not getting germs from touching the pump, is really just telling us that their soap does not realy kill germs as well as they say. ejchi

I've had my Lysol dispenser for a few months but it now keeps dispensing soap without anyone standing in front of it. Any idea what could be causing this and can I return it or have it exchanged through Lysol?
The lysol dispenser works fine first time but when I get a refill it stoworks for awhile and then nothng comes out. The light constntly blinks. I changed the batteries but it still won't dispense the soap.This is the second lysol dispenser I have bought.I am really diappointed in this product and won't be buying a third one.

When the Lysol No Touch light blinks constantly, simply clean off both contact points for the sensor beam. That is the red cover over the beam reflector, where the light is, and the sensor itself which is on the underside of the dispenser arm. The sensor is the clear plastic circle closest to the end of the arm. Once cleaned carefully (you may need to use a cotton swab), dry off the sensor and turn the Lysol soap dispenser on again. The light should stop blinking and soap will be dispensed again.

Our red light on the dispenser stays on constantly. I have replaced the batteries, cleaned the sensor and reflector and even swapped the batteries out with another dispenser that works fine. The dispenser works fine about twice then the light comes on constant again and the dispenser dispenses about three times the amount of soap that is normally dispenses. I have searched the internet and this page, I may have missed something but I only seem to come across the "blinking red" issue. Any help will be appreciated. Thank you
David, that certainly sounds like an electrical or mechanical malfunction. In order for the pump to dispense more soap than normal it will have to complete more than one pumping cycle, which might signify that the electrical or mechanical component designed to stop it at one pump is broken. The gears are made of plastic so it's not unlikely.

In my case, it was caused by too much strain on the plunger. The red light will stay on until you power off the dispenser for a few seconds. If you have refilled the dispenser with your own soap, it is too thick. Otherwise if you haven't, the plastic gears or motor are damaged.
If you can call Lysol at 1-800-841-1256 to describe the issue they will likely replace the unit free of charge by mailing you a coupon for a free Lysol No Touch starter kit. It is important that they know about all these problems for testing if they ever design a new version of the product. I doubt that any troubleshooting they will walk you through will fix that problem, but you never know.

The refills are also carried at stores like Target, chain pharmacies like Walgreens and Rite Aid, wholesale clubs like BJs and Sam's Club, and (likely at a much higher price) office supply stores like Staples and OfficeMax.
why aren't there any coupon on the refills.. we love the product.. i think i have bought about 20 of them and gave to friend that love it.....(hand no touch soap)once the kids learn how to use it... it was great.....grandma know best.. ha ha
That's the business, take a loss on the starter kit and make a killing on the refills. There is a new refill variety available, Aloe Vera & Vitamin E with Moisturizers, but it's just another anti-bacterial hand soap. Fortunately, for it is easy to refill the Healthy Touch canisters for those who want normal hand soap or dish detergent.
Problem: Dispenser is dispensing soap intermitently or dispensing when it shouldn't. You find a sea of soap under the dispenser the next morning.
Solution: Notice the red blinking light at the bottom front of unit? If it's blinking all the time instead of bling several times and turing off at initial power on, you have a senser covered with soap , making the unit think there is a hand blocking infrared beam. Turn of dispenser and clean the sensor "eye". It's located next to the opening where the soap comes out. I hope this helps. I went through two units until I found this out.

I've always had some concessions about this dispenser. For one thing, the head looks a bit flimsy to me. And it's cartridge based so it can't be refilled with ordinary soap. A commercial grade unit was sold not too long ago at Aldi for $14 which will pump just about anything and has three volume settings.
J S, that sounds like it might be a good buy. It's not hard to refill this dispenser with your own soap, but the volume control is a big issue. For adult hands, the amount of soap is often too much - both wasteful and difficult to rinse off. For a small child, the amount of soap dispensed from the Lysol No Touch system is very excessive. I bought this just before Xmas 2010. First thing we noticed is it poured way too much soap out every time and quickly emptied the bottle. So I drilled a hole in the bottle and refilled it. Often the light would flash red, stop working. Sometimes it would eject soap for no reason and had to be turned off. February 21 it just stopped working and in the trash it went. Money badly spent, buyer beware. My opinion, junk. Designed with selling expensive refills as the aim.

I guess there will always be sad whiney people who need to go on sights and in places in life, just to name call...but on a topic note...I did not buy it as a "fool". I bought it because it is easier for kids to operate than pumps and it is less mess.It has been very convenient for us adults also. I did not buy it for the germ idea except for the kitchen for meatmess hands. I had a pump and it kept falling over when I tried to pump it...so this works much better.I too drilled a hole in it and use a cork plug.I refill it with what I like that I buy at great prices in bulk.I water the soap down to dispense better and to save more money. I have saved money using this the way I use it.I find it very conveneint, so how does that make us fools?Never mind.I am thankful for this site.A as when mine started to continuously flash red, I could not figure out what to do till I read info on here. i work at walgreens and most stores are discounting them to about $7.50... plus the local rochester news paper had 3$ off coupon, plus walgreens was giving a 3$ register reward bringing the total to near $1.50 plus i get 15% iff my purchase being a worker:) i got like 7 of them
Love it, when I lived in Rochester I think I was located in a Walgreens desert, none nearby and the nearest stores were a huge pain to get to... any idea if the discount is national or just a local clearance markdown?

Ahh guys actually i took out the refill as it was making soo much of sound to clean it..and then when i fixed it it was not waorking at all..Than i changed the cells it was not working again then i put high quality cells and then when it started working it was not stopping at all:P lol..
Then i Stopped it and opened d sensor side and cleaned the sensor and den it stopped working..Now its been like 1 weak its not working :@
